I almost forgot about little Bobble!

Bobble is a little freeze-dried duckling that my boyfriend got for me during the PA Taxidermy Convention. He was just to cute that he had to get him for me! He got the name Bobble, because when we were traveling home, he settled himself down in an empty coffee cup and just fit perfectly... So he was dubbed bobble, the floating duckling :3

Like my bedspread too? xD DIGICAM FOR THE WIN

He isn't taxidermied, but freeze dried, meaning he has all his bones and everything still inside of him.

how long would freeze dried things last?

Usually until they fall apart, which depending on the care they get, can be hundreds of years :)

really? that's pretty neat, so longer or same life as a small skinned tanned and small critter? i don't think you tan small things... do you? I'm getting some duckings and a chick in the mail should arrive Tuesday. if not then overnight delivery was not very effective .-.

:D Aw awesome!
And it should be able to be done, the complicated part would be skinning it out. I don't personally tan myself just because I have yet to master that part of the trade, but I'm sure there are some people out there who do :D

not with how he was preserved. Basically it's like all the liquid in his body was dried up

He's so cute! I've always wondered this about freeze drying, though - are those the original eyes? How do they keep them from getting all cloudy? Or are the eyes somehow replaced before the freeze drying process, to ensure that the finished product can have open eyes?

Heheh they are so adorable.
And no, they aren't. They're glass eye replacements. I honestly have no idea what they do, but they certainly do a darn good job
